Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule an appointment?
To schedule a free 15-minute consultation session, email me at pariswilliamsphd@gmail.com or call me directly at (720) 583-4985. Let me know the best days/times to contact you for this consultation call. Click on the Services tab to learn more about the kinds of clients and issues I work with. What are the operational hours?
Monday-Wednesday: 1pm – 7:30pm
Thursday: 9am – 1pm
What should I expect on the first visit?
You will be given a set of intake forms to complete before we meet. We wil review this information and discuss your goals for our work together. We deepen into our therapy work in subsequent sessions. I use a highly collaborative approach, so we continue to discuss and possibly modify our approach moving forward, depending upon the nature of your progress and changing needs.
What is the length and frequency of our meetings?
We generally meet for 50 minutes (75 minutes for couples and families), once each week. Exceptions can be made where we meet once every other week, if your needs are relatively minor and/or you’re tapering off of a series of weekly sessions. Once we complete therapy, some clients like to maintain some degree of connection with me, meeting on an as-needed basis.
How long does the counseling process take?
The length of the entire therapy process can vary dramatically, depending upon your needs, goals, and the nature of the particular condition that you’re dealing with. I will do my best to provide a rough estimate when we first meet; however, be aware that this is only an estimate, as it is inherently difficult to make accurate estimates with therapy. Keep in mind that you’re always free to stop therapy at any time, though we would want to ensure a gentle transition to completion, if possible.
What forms of payment are accepted?
Credit/debit card is typically the simplest way to pay. However, I also accept cash, checks, money orders, or ACH transfers.
What insurance plans are accepted?
I don’t directly accept insurance; however, I use the Mentaya platform to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Many insurance providers reimburse up to 80% of the cost of therapy for out-of-network providers. You’ll find this tool on the Book/Pay tab to see if you qualify for reimbursement for my services.
Alternatively, I can provide you with a superbill after each session, which you would then give to your insurance provider for direct reimbursement, though you will need to contact them to confirm that they will reimburse you for this service.
Does there have to be something "wrong" with me to go to therapy?
No, the idea that only “crazy or damaged” people see counselors is an outdated notion. All of us have our difficulties at times, and receiving skilled support during such times can make a big difference in enjoying our lives to the fullest. Most people who attend therapy are ordinary people coping with everyday problems, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, marital concerns, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-image/self-esteem issues.
How can I get the most out of therapy?
The best way to get the most out of therapy is by coming regularly and actively engaging in the process. Paying attention to significant challenges or distress that you experience between therapy sessions (including impactful memories or dreams) can facilitate the process. Additionally, I will often suggest “homeplay” (various practices) that you can engage in between sessions, which can greatly expedite the therapy process.
